Turkish parliament to discuss Sweden's NATO bid after 16 January

The General Assembly of the Turkish Parliament may discuss Sweden's NATO membership application in the coming weeks.
This was stated today by the chairman of the parliamentary group of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Abdullah Güler, quoted by Sabah.
He told reporters in parliament that when the General Assembly, which is in recess until January 16, resumes work, it may include the Swedish candidacy on its agenda "in the coming weeks".
Güler did not give specific deadlines.
Last month, Turkey's parliamentary foreign affairs committee approved the candidacy in the first step of the ratification process. Parliament's approval is also needed for the protocol to be signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. / BGNES
