Turkey's competition watchdog has imposed a temporary measure on Meta Platforms Inc, which aims to prevent data sharing between platforms Instagram and Trades, as it investigates possible abuse of the company's dominant market position, AFP reported.
In December, the authority opened an investigation into Meta, the parent company of Facebook, opening a new chapter, in relation to a possible breach of competition law by linking its social media platforms Instagram and the newer Threads.
The authority said the temporary measure would remain in place pending a final decision, as data obtained and combined through these two apps could "violate competition law and cause irreparable harm" to the market.
Separately, the Turkish authority fined Meta $148,000 a day as part of a separate investigation into the notification message the company sends to users about data sharing.
The notification about sharing data between the company's Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp services did not provide enough information and was not transparent enough, he said.
The notice to consumers was also designed to direct them to consent to the sharing of data, which was not considered sufficient to address anti-competitive concerns, she added. /BGNES
