Turkey condemns Houthi missile attack on its cargo ship

Turkey has condemned the missile attack on a cargo ship in the Red Sea carried out by Yemeni Houthi rebels and said measures were being taken to prevent similar incidents.
"We condemn the missile attacks by the Houthis against the Panama-flagged Anadolu S dry cargo ship, owned by a Turkish company, while it was sailing off the coast of Yemen," the foreign ministry said in a statement quoted by AFP.
Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed to have attacked the cargo ship in the Red Sea, and the multinational naval task force said two missiles struck near the Panama-flagged vessel.
The Iran-backed Houthis have been attacking ships in and around the Red Sea since last November in a campaign they say is in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza.
Houthi spokesman Yahya Sari pointed out that the rebels "carried out an operation targeting the Anadolu S ship in the Red Sea with a number of appropriate ballistic and naval missiles," adding that "the strike was accurate and direct."
The Turkish ministry gave no details in its statement on whether the ship had received any damage, saying only that "necessary initiatives are being taken to prevent the recurrence of such an incident." | BGNES
