There are three times more Bulgarians than Macedonians in Albania.
This becomes clear from the results of the official census in the country, BGNES reported.
The Bulgarian population in the country is 7057 people - 3691 men and 3366 women. 2,281 people self-identify as Macedonians, the National Statistical Institute INSTAT reported.
Albania's population is 2,402,113 by 2023. It has decreased by 420,000 people compared to the latest data from 2011. The number of inhabitants in 2001 was 3 069 275 people.
Natural population growth has decreased by 19% to 690 people in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the first quarter of 2017.
"Today, 755,950 families with an average of 3.2 members per family live in 1,082,529 ordinary dwellings," Elsa Dooley, head of INSTAT, said.
Although emigration has declined since the post-communist exodus of the 1990s, it remains a huge problem for Albanian society. I BGNES
