US Assistant Secretary of State James O'Brien stated that the US is firmly of the position that there will be no secession in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
"We talked in Dayton and everyone there understood that there is no possibility of secession. The United States will act if anyone tries to violate the Dayton Agreement," O'Brien said on the "Platform X" program.
Under his comment, O'Brien also shared a tweet from the US Embassy in Sarajevo.
"The Republika Srpska (RS) is an entity within the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is an integral part of the state, but neither RS nor the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina exist outside of Bosnia and Herzegovina. "Neither the RS nor any other sub-state entity has the right to secede under the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina," the US embassy said in a statement.
It is added that the US has repeatedly made it clear that it will react and oppose actions directed against the Dayton Agreement, such as secession.
"Milorad Dodik is wrong to think that the United States will stand by as he pushes Bosnia and Herzegovina toward conflict," the US Embassy in Sarajevo said in a statement.
Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik said earlier that if High Representative Christian Schmidt tried to impose a property law, Republika Srpska would immediately declare independence.
"We had a big preparatory meeting for such a situation," Dodik said.
He stated that he has information that Schmidt will enforce the property law in January./BGNES
