The fire that broke out this morning at the Universal Hall in Skopje has been brought under control, BGNES reports.
Fire brigades are on the scene, as well as police vehicles.
So far there is no information about injured people. More details about the cause of the fire are expected in the coming hours.
Due to the fire, the nearby avenue is closed, and traffic has been diverted by police.
The reconstruction of the hall, which was halted two years ago, was resumed recently by the Ministry of Culture of North Macedonia.
BGNES reminds that the hall was donated to Skopje by Bulgaria after the catastrophic earthquake in the Macedonian capital on July 26, 1963.
The tragedy killed more than 1,500 people, many of them Bulgarians. Almost 80% of the city's housing stock was destroyed or rendered uninhabitable. Immediately after the disaster, the Bulgarian state, through the Bulgarian Red Cross, provided the affected population with large-scale humanitarian aid, amounting in financial terms to over 2 million Swiss francs. The "Universal Hall" is a replica of the circus building in Sofia. / BGNES
