The entire family of Macedonian Energy Minister Sanja Bozinovska has Bulgarian citizenship, BGNES reported.
Father Pero, mother Violeta and brother Daniel, as well as Bozinovska herself, are Bulgarian passport holders, sources from the Ministry of Justice told BGNES.
To obtain the document, they have proved their Bulgarian roots and declared their Bulgarian identity.
Bozinovska lied several times to Macedonian citizens that she was no longer a Bulgarian citizen. The minister in Hristijan Mickoski's cabinet had applied for a waiver in September last year, but did not receive a decree.
Filing an application for a waiver of Bulgarian citizenship does NOT automatically complete the procedure. This is done through a special decree and applies to both current Bulgarian citizens born abroad and Bulgarians who were born on the territory of present-day Bulgaria.
No decree has been issued for the person in question (Bozinovska) for exemption from citizenship to date. The issuance of such is carried out after a thorough verification of any kind of obligations of the applicant. The check, including tax and property, applies to all countries where the person has resided. The competent authorities shall also check for possible criminal proceedings.
If Bozinovska needs legal or other assistance, she can contact the Bulgarian embassy in Skopje, which is obliged to assist her.
BGNES reminds that on 4 October Bojanovska said she "will consult her lawyers" whether she still has Bulgarian identity.
In June this year, it emerged that she was running a company in Croatia with a Bulgarian passport. A check by colleagues at Radio Free Europe showed that the so-called energy expert had been selling pantyhose. | BGNES
