Albanian MPs will meet on December 18 to decide on the request of the Special Prosecutor's Office (SPAK) to change the coercive measure against the country's former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
Recently, SPAK sent a letter to the parliament with a request to remove the immunity of the opposition leader, because the latter did not comply with the order to appear before the prosecutor's office.
Sali Berisha is suspected of "corruption and abuse of office" related to the privatization process in the capital Tirana, for which his son-in-law is also facing charges of corruption and money laundering.
According to the leader of the Democratic Party, the accusations against him and his son-in-law Jamarberi Maltese regarding the privatization of the former "Partizani" complex are "absolutely unfounded"
"No actions will stop the opposition's resistance and irrevocable fight," the experienced politician said recently.
Berisha, for his part, accuses Prime Minister Edi Rama of suppressing the opposition, corruption, organized crime and failure on the socio-economic front.
The Albanian opposition calls Rama a "vassal" of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. /BGNES
