Student killed in school attack in Croatia

One student died and several others were injured in an attack at a school in the Croatian capital Zagreb, state media reported.

Earlier, police said a man attacked a teacher and students at a primary school with a sharp object.

"Eight people were injured in the attack, of whom one child died," state news agency HINA reported, citing the health ministry.

Police said the alleged suspect in the attack was in custody.

"We are shocked, as is the entire Croatian public, by the terrible tragedy at the elementary school," Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said at the start of a government meeting.

Plenkovic pointed out that several pupils were being treated in four Zagreb hospitals, adding that more details would be made public soon.
