* Dimitar Talev (1 September 1898 – 20 October 1966) was a Bulgarian writer, journalist, political prisoner, and member of the Bulgarian National Assembly. He was born in Prilep, in the Manastir Vilayet of the Ottoman Empire (present-day North Macedonia) - editor's note.
Dimitar Talev's house in Prilep is not part of the protected cultural heritage in the Republic of Macedonia.
This is the official position of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of North Macedonia, a day after the Bulgarian government assigned the Minister of Culture Nayden Todorov to investigate the possibility of purchasing Dimitar Talev's* native house in Prilep as soon as possible.
Ministry of Culture in Skopje also claimed to the local edition "Sloboden Pechat" that the ministry has nothing to do "with the issues related to the purchase and sale" of Dimitar Talev's house in Prilep. "If we receive a letter about the house, we will give an appropriate response," the position of the Ministry of Culture in Skopje also states.
The Macedonian media extensively informs about the decision of the Bulgarian cabinet, and one of them states in the headline that one of the owners of the property did not want to sell his share to the Bulgarian state".
BGNES reminds that the house in which Dimitar Talev was born on September 13, 1898, is the prototype of the home of the Glaushevi family from his famous tetralogy, whose first novel "The Iron Beacon" is one of the most published and read Bulgarian novels. However, due to carelessness - on the part of Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia, and as a result of the heavy rains of the past month, part of the writer's native house collapsed. The BGNES Agency was the first to alert about the dire condition of the house back in September 2022 in an interview with Snezhana Acheska, the current owner of Dimitar Talev's house in Prilep. Then she explained that the house, a symbol of Bulgaria, is crumbling with each passing day, and called on the Bulgarian state to buy it back so that it can be restored in its authentic form. /BGNES
