"If there are new local elections in Belgrade, they will be held at the end of May or the beginning of June."
This was stated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, quoted by Politika.
Vucic, who is participating in the security conference in Munjeh, said he would wait until the March 3 deadline to convene the local parliament. If the local parliament is not convened by then, new elections must be scheduled.
"During the period someone has to choose the chairman of the city assembly or there will be elections until the end of May and the beginning of June, this is a matter of law, not of someone's will," said Vucic.
Parliamentary and local elections in Serbia took place on December 17 and were marred by widespread violations. Vucic and the ruling Serbian Progressive Party were accused of stealing votes from the opposition. The European Parliament has called for a full international investigation into the elections, with a special focus on the capital Belgrade. /BGNES
