Serbia arrests opposition politician for taking part in protests

Serbian police arrested opposition politician Milos Pavlovic, deputy chairman of the National Movement of Serbia - NMS.
He was detained for several hours before being released. The reason for his arrest was his participation in an opposition protest on 24 December against the irregularities of the 17 December elections.
NMS is led by Miroslav Aleksic, one of the leaders of the largest opposition coalition Serbia Against Violence.
"Today, Milos Pavlovic was arrested in the vicinity of Uzice on his way to Zlatibor. He was in the car with his family at the time," the party said.
Traffic policemen stopped Pavlović, checked his documents and informed him that an arrest warrant had been issued for him. The warrant is related to his participation in the protest against the 17 December election violations, which took place on 24 December in front of the City Hall in the capital Belgrade.
"Although Pavlovic has been in Belgrade every day since the protests and as a lawyer by the nature of his work in the courts, the police sneakily arrested him in front of his family on the pretext that they could not find him until now. This is all part of the plan of intimidation by the usurping and violent regime ahead of the constituent session of the Belgrade Parliament, which is scheduled for Monday 19 February. They will stop at nothing in the fight against the opposition," the NMS message said.
Miroslav Aleksic told N1 television that his party-mate Milos Pavlovic would be heard on 19 February, at 9 a.m., at the Belgrade prosecutor's office. /BGNES
