The Russian ambassador in Bucharest Valery Kuzim was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs because of a series of "contradictory" information published by the Russian side.
In a publication a few days ago, the Russian embassy wrote that 200 Romanians were killed in Ukraine, "Gigi24" reported.
Foreign Minister Luminica Odobescu ordered the Russian ambassador to be summoned this morning.
"The ambassador was conveyed the deep dissatisfaction of the Romanian side regarding the distorted and inconsistent way in which important topics of bilateral importance, which originate from the historical past, are considered, including in the public announcement of the embassy of the Russian Federation," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
At the meeting, the ambassador of the Russian Federation was reminded of "the need for full and permanent participation in diplomatic practice, including in terms of maintaining responsible behavior in public communication."
In recent days, tensions between Bucharest and Moscow have risen further.
On March 14, members of the European Parliament (EP) adopted a resolution calling on Russia to return to Romania the gold and cultural heritage items handed over to the Russian Empire for safekeeping in 1916-1917.
The Deputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, responded: "The Romanians are not a nation, and we will not return their gold. European leaders are idiots, weaklings and nothings." /BGNES
