Romania schedules presidential elections for 4 and 18 May

Romania's ruling coalition has set the dates for the 2025 presidential elections. The first round will be held on May 4 and the second on May 18, Aggerpress reported.

Crin Antonescu remains the coalition's presidential candidate, despite his displeasure in January when he announced he was "freezing" his candidacy, accusing his partners of abandonment. National Liberal Party (NLP) leader Ilie Bolozhan said Antonescu remained their candidate despite his expressed dissatisfaction.

Next week, the government will adopt the relevant decisions to call the elections. The first round will be held two weeks after Easter, which this year is on 20 April.

At the meeting today, the coalition discussed two possible scenarios for the elections - on 4 and 18 May or on 11 and 25 May, opting for the first option. | BGNES
