Romania prepares €14 billion for defence in 2024

According to Romania's draft budget, the Ministry of National Defence has been allocated 71 billion lei (€14 billion) for the purchase of military equipment in 2024. This is the budget for committed payments, i.e. payments that can be realised in the coming years.

For 2024, the MoD's budget for the purchase of military equipment is 16 billion lei (€3 billion), but this includes payments that are made on account of commitments from previous years.

In 2024, the Ministry of National Defence will sign several contracts, including for the purchase of 32 fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets manufactured by US giant Lockheed Martin. The acquisition of the two squadrons will cost, according to current information, about $6.5 billion. | BGNES
