Romania's accession to the U.S. Visa Waiver Program will be formally celebrated on Friday, January 10, during a ceremony at the Department of Homeland Security in Washington.
The event will be attended by US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorcas and Romania's Ambassador to the US Andrei Muraru," Romania Insider reported.
State Department officials and representatives of the Romanian embassy are expected to attend the event.
At the ceremony, Minister Mayorcas will officially inform Ambassador Muraru of the United States' decision to accept Romania into the Visa Waiver Program. Key details regarding the technical aspects and the effective date of the decision will also be shared.
"This event is the culmination of years of hard work by Romanian and American officials," said Andrei Muraru.
"Romania's inclusion in the Visa Waiver Program is a significant recognition of our shared economic and security interests. As the first Black Sea country to join the program, Romania strengthens its strategic partnership with the United States. This important milestone will make it easier for Romanians to travel, boost trade and investment, and promote tourism and direct ties. Meeting the program's rigorous requirements also enhances Romania's security and brings it more closely in line with U.S. standards," he added.
Following the US federal government's decision, Romania officially becomes the 43rd participant in the Visa Waiver Program. | BGNES
