Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani honored Kosovo Police Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku on the first anniversary of his death in the Banjska attack.
She stressed that his death as a martyr proves that Kosovo's freedom has no price, the Albanian Post reported.
"Today marks one year since Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed. His death showed once again, as we have witnessed throughout the centuries, that this land is our eternal homeland. This freedom has no price," Osmani wrote on Facebook.
"Kosovo is and will remain indivisible, our freedom and inviolable borders! Today and forever," she concluded.
BGNES reminds that on September 24, 2023, an armed group attacked the Kosovo police in the village of Banjska, killing Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku.
Milan Radojcic, deputy chairman of the Serbian List (the largest party of Kosovo Serbs) and a close friend of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, claimed responsibility for the attack. After the attack, Radojcic fled to Serbia, which refused to extradite him back to Kosovo.
Serbian authorities arrested Radojcic, but released him just a day later.
The United States and the European Union have condemned what happened and have demanded that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
Serbia, on the other hand, has not distanced itself from this attack, but on the contrary has declared a day of national mourning in memory of the murdered terrorists.
Following the terrorist attack, official Belgrade deployed a large number of troops along the border with Kosovo, which were withdrawn days later due to pressure from the international community. | BGNES
