On November 17, one of the victims died in the collapse of the roof of a railway station in the Serbian city of Novi Sad. Thus, the number of victims rose to 15, AFP reported.
The concrete roof of the train station in Novi Sad collapsed on November 1, killing 14 people aged 6 to 74 and injuring three others.
"The patient in question suffered the most severe injuries. Despite the efforts and struggle of the doctors, the outcome was fatal," said Vesna Turkulov, director of the Clinical Center of Vojvodina.
Doctors are still trying to save the lives of the other two, who are in serious condition, Turkulov added.
The tragedy caused excitement throughout Serbia and protests in both Novi Sad and the capital, Belgrade.
Days after the incident, Construction Minister Goran Vesic resigned, but the protests continued. Demonstrators called on Prime Minister Milos Vucevic and the mayor of Novi Sad to resign over allegations of government corruption and lax oversight of construction and development projects.
On November 17, the demonstrators blocked traffic for 6 hours at an intersection near the railway station.
The authorities promised to take criminal and political responsibility, including handing in new resignations.
So far, prosecutors have questioned more than 70 people, including Vesic, but no arrests have been made. | BGNES
