"Most political parties have signed a document that commits them that they will not be part of a government without a clear agreement on constitutional changes."
This was stated by North Macedonian presidential candidate Bujar Osmani from the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI).
"I am convinced that first there will be an agreement, meaning constitutional changes, and then there will be a government. I, as president, will use this period to reach a non-partisan national consensus on these issues," he told a press conference today.
Osmani stressed that EU membership is not an alternative for North Macedonia.
"Western Balkan countries cannot prosper on their own with their capacities and resources. That is why it is necessary to adopt constitutional amendments as soon as possible and close all chapters by 2028," the DUI candidate for head of state added.
He said the future president should be "a connective tissue of ethnic and political narratives, a compass of geo-strategic orientation and a consensus builder of the state."
Bujar Osmani noted that there would be no opening of the negotiating framework with the European Union (EU) because "this is already a done deal." /BGNES
