With its behaviour towards us, Bulgaria is allowing a serious generation gap to build up. A feeling of distrust, I would even say hatred, is being created among generations of young people, and rightly so, because of what is being done to us in an unfair and un-European way.
This is what Macedonian Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski said in response to the question "how will the relations between North Macedonia and Bulgaria develop", BGNES reports.
"This issue is a big challenge for us, but we need to find a solution. Frankly speaking, we would like to have a stable internal situation as soon as possible, to make a political government with which we can have a dialogue. I think our neighbour knows how important our accession to the EU is for them. We have to offer confidence building initiatives, while at the same time we have to expect that as long as we respect the other side, they will return the same respect to us on every different level," he said and underlined. A sense of mistrust, I would even say hatred, is being created among generations of young people, somewhat and rightly so, because of what is being done to us in an unfair and un-European way. We need to build trust, we need to build mutual understanding, and we as politicians need to understand that we have a serious responsibility for every decision that we take. Serious hostility is being created between the two nations because of ill-considered decisions."
Asked what he expects and whether there is a connection with Bulgaria, Mucuński told local website mkd: "There is communication and it will exist. We have to work for more dynamics in finding solutions. The excuse that the problem is European and not bilateral is an escape from responsibility. We need to be clear that we need to solve problems together. For many countries, what one NATO member state does to another NATO member state in terms of this collective security architecture is truly amazing. I would even say that there are those who are seriously worried about the negative consequences of such a process. And that is something that should not be acceptable in this century that we live in," Mucunski said, adding, "We will continue the dialogue in good faith to find a compromise solution. On our issue, Europe is increasingly talking about a compromise, but a compromise that will give us certainty that we will not be put in the situation we are in now." | BGNES
