Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is in London on a two-day official visit. On 2 December, he will open the third Greek Investment Conference organised by the Athens Stock Exchange in cooperation with Morgan Stanley.
Later in the day, the prime minister will participate in a closed seminar on artificial intelligence (AI) organised by the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, Kathimerini newspaper reported.
On 3 December, Mitsotakis will meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for the first time in Downing Street. The meeting comes at a critical geopolitical moment for the West amid escalating tensions in Ukraine.
The talks will aim to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in key areas such as shipping, research, innovation and tourism. The UK is Greece's second largest tourism market.
Migration will also be high on the agenda. As migration flows increase, the UK is looking for effective solutions, while Greece has gained international recognition for its border management and migration policies.
Leaders will discuss wider international cooperation, particularly in light of Greece's upcoming role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the period 2025-2026. This coincides with the UK's permanent membership, which provides an opportunity to cooperate on global peace and security initiatives in accordance with international law.
Topics of regional and global importance will also be discussed, including recent developments in the Middle East and Ukraine. In addition, the two leaders are expected to consider the future relationship between the UK and the EU. | BGNES
