Minister in Macedonian PM Mickoski's office: no need for textbooks and grammar, children learn languages from TV shows

Education Minister in the cabinet of Hristijan Mickoski Vesna Janevska has caused a real storm in North Macedonia with her claim that there will be no foreign language textbooks in the next education year, reported BGNES from Skopje.

"There will be no textbooks for foreign languages in this school year. There will be such next year...language is a living matter. As you know, children learn foreign languages from TV series. The most important thing is that they understand and speak, not learn the grammar of the foreign language - prepositions, subpositions, etc. In my opinion this is not a problem," Janevska said during her visit to the village of Bulachani, not far from Skopje.

Due to huge public outrage, Vesna Janevska tried to cover up the scandal by claiming that it was a "badly worded statement that gave rise to misinterpretations and abuse by individuals and political opponents". I BGNES
