Bozinovska's team said that she is thus automatically no longer a citizen of Bulgaria, but only of North Macedonia and the Czech Republic.
The claims by the Macedonian press and the minister's team were refuted to BGNES by sources in the Bulgarian Justice Ministry.
They stated that the submission of an application for exemption from Bulgarian citizenship does NOT lead to automatic completion of the procedure. This is done through a special decree and applies to both current Bulgarian citizens born abroad and Bulgarians who were born on the territory of present-day Bulgaria. No decree has been issued for the person in question (Bozinovska) for exemption from citizenship to date. The issuing of such a decree is carried out after a thorough check of all kinds of obligations of the applicant. The verification, including tax and property, applies to all countries where the person has resided. The competent authorities shall also check for possible criminal proceedings.
Today, the Minister in the Office of Christian Mickoski circulated the following position:
"This is the exact and precise truth. I was born in Skopje, I am Macedonian and I will always be Macedonian. No one can or should dispute that. All other snide comments, strange questions and misinterpreted answers I will understand and accept as the price of my humble and small political experience. I did not return home to participate in political games. I came back to put my knowledge and experience into energy as a specific and difficult subject. I have always believed that personal attacks and constructions are not good in any interpersonal relationship. These personal attacks will not sway me in my intention to bring order to this field, which has been in chaos and utter criminality in recent years," Bozinovska wrote on Facebook.
BGNES recalls that on 4 October Bozinovska said she "will consult with her lawyers" whether she still has a Bulgarian identity.
In June this year, it emerged that she was running a company in Croatia with a Bulgarian passport.
Asked whether she would show the public a document confirming that she was no longer a Bulgarian citizen, Bozinovska, from the ranks of VMRO-DPMNE, deflected the question and said she would "have to consult her lawyers".
Asked again whether she still holds a Bulgarian passport, she said. I have Macedonian and Czech citizenship. I have both a Macedonian and a Czech passport. I will have to consult the lawyers on this. They conducted this procedure a long time ago."
Bozinovska gave the same answer when asked whether she "still has Bulgarian identity":
"Those were statements that I don't remember now. It was a long time ago. I did not manage the process, it was managed by a law firm." | BGNES
