Minister Bozinovska from the office of Macedonian Prime Minister Mitkoski is still a Bulgarian citizen

As of today, the Macedonian Minister of Energy Sanja Bozinovska is a Bulgarian citizen.

According to BGNES News Agency sources in the Ministry of Justice, who requested anonymity, Bozinovska has not been issued a decree to be released from Bulgarian citizenship.

Bozinovska herself has stated on several occasions that she has applied for renunciation of citizenship. She claims that to date she holds only Macedonian and Czech citizenship and has no Bulgarian documents.

Experts from the Ministry of Justice in Sofia said that the procedure for renouncing Bulgarian citizenship is not limited to submitting an application. They reminded that obtaining Bulgarian citizenship is based on providing documents of Bulgarian origin and a personal statement of the applicant's Bulgarian identity.

BGNES reminds that today Sanja Bozinovska said she "will consult with her lawyers" whether she still has Bulgarian identity. Bulgarian lawyers confirmed that in the absence of a decree renouncing citizenship Bozinovska can now renew her identity card and Bulgarian passport, one of the options being to apply at the Bulgarian embassy in Skopje.

In June this year, it was revealed that she was running a company in Croatia with a Bulgarian passport.

Asked whether she would show the public a document confirming that she was no longer a Bulgarian citizen, Bozinovska, from the ranks of VMRO-DPMNE, deflected the question and said she would "have to consult with the lawyers".

Asked a second time whether she still had a Bulgarian passport, she said: I have Macedonian and Czech citizenship. I have both a Macedonian and a Czech passport. I will have to consult the lawyers on this. They conducted this procedure a long time ago."

Bozinovska gave the same answer when asked whether she "still has Bulgarian identity":

"Those were statements that I don't remember now. It was a long time ago. I did not manage the process, it was managed by a law firm." | BGNES
