This was stated by Macedonian Prime Minister Christian Mickoski at a joint press conference with Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic, who is visiting Skopje, BGNES reports.
"In these turbulent times it is essential to stand together, to be a voice of reason and to work for stability and security for the whole region. We stressed the importance of dialogue as the only way to resolve disputes and misunderstandings.
On our European aspirations, we reaffirmed the common vision that the future of the region is the European Union. We know that the road to get there is not easy, but we believe that with joint efforts and support we can meet the criteria and bring the benefits of European integration to the citizens of the region," Mickoski added.
The two prime ministers discussed ways to deepen economic cooperation, especially in the energy sector, as well as connecting people.
There was also talk of the construction of the Skopje-Belgrade high-speed railway, which is part of Corridor 10.
"Another priority is the construction of Corridor 10 with our northern neighbour. Regional connectivity remains a priority for both countries and should be part of future EU connectivity and integration. We also touched on the issue of holding joint government meetings. Relations between the two countries are at an extremely high level and we need to deepen them in the next period," Mickoski stressed.
The North Macedonian prime minister said that his main goal is "building good neighbourly relations with all our neighbours" and "normally together as a region we can be part of the European Union".
The Serbian PM, for his part, pointed out that North Macedonia and Serbia have traditionally good relations and stressed that the key for Serbia is the construction of an interconnector and a new route for the supply of natural gas to Serbia, through North Macedonia.
"We strongly support the common path. Serbia believes in a common European future for the whole region. We give our full support to North Macedonia on its European path. We believe that the EU should enable North Macedonia for its progress towards the Union, we want to say this publicly and we believe in a common European destiny or history for the whole region. This region deserves a chance and support from the whole EU", said Vucevic. | BGNES
