Macedonian PM: We are not obliged to make constitutional changes according to the Neighbourhood Treaty with Bulgaria

"Anyone who brings up the issue of identity problems does not think the good of his neighbour and even less respects European values. There is no provision in the Neighbourhood Treaty that does not oblige us to make constitutional changes.

This is what North Macedonian Prime Minister Christian Mitkoski stated, reports BGNES.

"In both agreements (with Bulgaria and Greece) it is stated that the member states must support each other unconditionally. Macedonia does not dispute anything with anyone and we do not want them to dispute it either. Bilateral cooperation is key when we talk about economic cooperation, tourism, exchange of know-how skills, education, etc. And here the process has added value. But if bilateral talks and negotiations lead to identity issues, then this process cannot end successfully because it is about emotions, not rationality. Any process that is about emotions cannot be based on progress, quality and delivering results. So please put the emotional bilateral issues aside and get the testimony right," said Mr. Mickoski.

"There is no provision in the Neighbourhood Treaty that does not oblige us to make constitutional changes. We need to look at the job properly, tell the truth to our faces, not as we like it," he added. | BGNES
