Macedonian PM Dimitar Kovacevski: Constitutional amendments are inevitable

The process of constitutional amendments in North Macedonia is inevitable, Macedonian Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski said before the start of the EU-Western Balkans summit.

"The conclusions of the European Council are very clear and we will certainly continue with the reforms, and the process of constitutional amendments is inevitable and will eventually lead to a successful conclusion of the negotiations and EU membership," the prime minister said.

"Macedonia has successfully completed the screening process, but you all know that we have one more obligation to fulfil," Kovacevski said.

The prime minister pointed out that this is an obligation that is very clearly noted in the progress report on the European process.

"The proposed conclusions state that the second intergovernmental conference will be held immediately after the adoption of these changes," he stressed.

Dimitar Kovacevski noted that in the "Republic of North Macedonia there are two blocks pro-European and anti-European".

"The view was confirmed that there are two blocs in the country - a pro-European integration one and one that seeks to derail this process with all its might, and previously worked against NATO integration," he said. /BGNES
