"A priority for Macedonia is the construction of a high-speed railway line Skopje-Thessaloniki with a speed of 200 km per hour (Corridor 10 - note ed.). We are working on Corridor 8 and I hope we can find a common language so we don't end up with a railway that ends in a tunnel that leads us nowhere".
This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport of North Macedonia, Alexander Nikoloski, in a video address on his Facebook profile.
Nikoloski took part in the meeting of EU transport ministers, which took place in Budapest.
"The number one priority for Macedonia is the construction of the Skopje-Thessaloniki high-speed railway line with a speed of 200 km per hour, which should completely change the economy of Macedonia and which should connect Macedonia with the main ports, and to the north with Central Europe. We are also working intensively on the construction of railway Corridor 8, where the first section of the railway line to Bulgaria is almost ready, and the second section is currently being worked on, and regarding the third section we have technical challenges that I hope we will solve in the next period, as well as design challenges and of course all the other hurdles I mentioned in the period ahead. But I hope that we will also find a common language so that we don't end up with a railway that ends in a tunnel that leads us nowhere," said the Transport Minister of North Macedonia.
"Regarding the airlines, we have a new subsidy policy, which I expect next year will lead to new destinations at Skopje and Ohrid airports, but also to over 20% more passengers, more tourists in Macedonia and more opportunities for Macedonians citizens to travel outside the country," Nikoloski added.
He said that by the end of the year, the Kumanovo - Kriva Palanka expressway will be completed, as well as the Prilep - Gradsko expressway, which will greatly facilitate communications. | BGNES
