"The visit of the head of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William Burns to Kosovo is proof of the strong and stable relations between Washington and Pristina".
This was stated in a message to the media from the office of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, after the head of government met with Burns on August 23.
The US ambassador to Pristina, Jeffrey Hovenier, also participated in the meeting. Numerous police officers guarded the perimeter around the government building while the three spoke, Koha reported.
"The historic visit of CIA Director Mr. William Burns to Kosovo is highly appreciated by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo. It is proof of the strong and stable relations between the two countries and represents a golden opportunity to deepen strategic cooperation, for peace and security in the region and beyond. Kurti thanked the CIA director for his continued support and expressed his commitment to deepening cooperation in areas of common interest, declaring that American values of democracy, the rule of law and order, and an unwavering Euro-Atlantic orientation, will remain a fundamental pillar of the good and democratic governance of Kosovo," the statement said.
Kurti also spoke with Burns about the economic development of Kosovo.
"Prime Minister Kurti briefed Director Burns on Kosovo's economic growth and development, as well as social and democratic progress, emphasizing that all internal security challenges are being successfully managed with the strength of our democratic state's just law," the Kurti administration added .
"The government of the Republic of Kosovo is also successfully dealing with internal security challenges, guided by the power of real law with state institutions and the mechanisms of our democracies," the Kosovo prime minister wrote on Facebook.
"The liberation and independence of our country, the constant American support in many areas was and is the true and right thing that was worth it for everyone. I also expressed my unwavering attachment to the values and common principles related to freedom and democracy, the rule of law and order, as well as my unwavering orientation to membership in NATO and the EU. I thank CIA Director William Burns for his continued support and for this historic visit to our country," Kurti added. | BGNES
