Kovacevski: Macedonia was like the LA Lakers for Bulgaria before its EU membership

"We were like a space shuttle compared to Bulgaria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and the Soviet countries before they joined the EU. To them we were like the Los Angeles Lakers."

This was stated by former Macedonian Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski at a press conference with the President of the North Macedonian Chamber of Commerce Branko Azeski, BGNES reported.

According to Kovacevski, "just because they are members of the European Union, the listed countries are better than North Macedonia."

"If they were genetically better than us, they would have been better even back then, before joining the EU. They are not genetically better than us. nor are they smarter, nor do they have better resources, nor do they have a better geographical position. Nor did they have better infrastructure," Kovacevski said.

"The key issue for our future is continued European integration and full EU membership. Mr Azeski and I know that we were a space shuttle compared to Bulgaria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and the Soviet camp countries. For them we were the LA Lakers", he added.

Referring to Bulgaria, Kovacevski said, "Bulgaria didn't even have roads then."

"Neighboring Bulgaria now has subways, but before there were no roads. That is why European integration is a priority for the economic, social, and democratic progress of North Macedonia. Anyone who comes up with other alternative scenarios is a waste of time, as we have seen for 11 years now", added the president of the Social Democratic Union SDSM. / BGNES
