The Association of Displaced Serbs from Kosovo announced that from today (February 5) between 12:00 and 15:00 local time, its members will block the roads connecting Kosovo and Serbia "to all vehicles driven by Albanians" passing through Kosovo - the Serbian border point in Merdara, in the direction of Kurshumlia, Nishit, Belgrade, and Subotica, "Albanian Post" reported.
"The roads will be blocked every Monday for three hours from 12:00 to 15:00 until the daily terror against the Serbian people in Kosovo is stopped. The terror experienced by the Serbian people and other non-Albanian peoples has become unbearable and is very close to a conflict with incalculable consequences," the Association of Displaced Serbs said in a statement.
The blocking of the roads leading to Kosovo comes after the entry into force of the decree of the Central Bank of Kosovo (CBK), which prohibits the circulation of the Serbian dinar on the territory of Kosovo. Many have warned that issuing the dinar could encourage renewed conflict in Kosovo's Serb-majority north, as well as over license plates.
BGNES recalls that in December 2022, hundreds of ethnic Serbs erected barricades on a road in Northern Kosovo, blocking traffic through the two main border crossings to Serbia, the police said. Trucks, ambulances, and farm machinery were used for the blockades, fueling recent tensions that have included explosions, shootings, and an armed attack on a police patrol that injured an ethnic Albanian policeman. /BGNES
