Kosovo PM: Serbian aggression threatens security in the Balkans, not inter-ethnic relations

"Kosovo is aware that our northern neighbor Serbia is aggressive and angry, and this makes us more cautious. The autocracy in Belgrade is linked to the despotism in Moscow."

This was stated by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, at the opening of the State Cyber Security Training Center in the country.

The Prime Minister said that he is aware of the security risk in the Balkans and in Europe. According to him, the US knows this very well.

Kurti also commented on the US intelligence community's 2024 Security Assessment report, which warned of possible ethnic conflict in the Western Balkans in the coming months.

"The conflicts are not inter-ethnic, it is not ethnic differences that cause the conflict, but the autocracy in Belgrade linked to the despot in Moscow. We have always warned that non-democratic countries in our region, not only in the eastern part of Europe, are dangerous for security and peace, but of course no one can know this as thoroughly and deeply as the US," he said.

Kurti explained that Kosovo is preparing as well as possible "for what we can and know", including the opening of the Cyber Security Training Center.

In addition, the prime minister also spoke about investments in the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF).

"I had the honor together with the commander of the Kosovo Security Forces, Bashkim Yashari, to see these 15 multipurpose trucks of the German company, which we have already included in the KSS," he added, noting that 10 of them were purchased with the state budget, and 5 others are donations.

"We buy so much that the territorial integrity, sovereignty and security of citizens are inviolable. We have a clear background that our northern neighbor is aggressive and angry, but this makes us cautious and careful," said Albin Kurti. /BGNES
