Kosovo and North Macedonia co-finance a 6.4 km long tunnel on the Prizren-Tetovo route

The governments of Kosovo and North Macedonia have signed an agreement to co-finance a tunnel for a new highway that will connect Prizren in Kosovo and Tetovo in North Macedonia.
"This important road not only connects Prizren with Tetovo, but also Corridor 8 with the Ibrahim Rugova highway, which connects Pristina with Duras and Tirana, creating new transport opportunities," emphasized Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure of Kosovo Liburn Aliu , quoted by "Koha".
The Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of North Macedonia, Bekim Redzepi, recalled that this agreement was preceded by a series of meetings of working groups from both sides, thus reaching the most optimal solution for the construction project of the tunnel with a length of 6 ,4 km.
The financing of this project, including the construction of the tunnel on the Tetovo-Prizren road, will be divided proportionally according to its length on each side.
The Prizren-Tetovo road was thrust into the spotlight in August 2023, when Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti expressed readiness for its construction. The governments of the two countries agreed on this road axis at a joint meeting as early as 2021.
The Prizren-Tetovo road will be about 50 kilometers long, reducing the travel time between the two points to less than an hour.
The current Prizren-Tetovo road is 113 kilometers long and takes over two and a half hours to travel./BGNES
