US Ambassador to Serbia Christopher Hill informed President Aleksandar Vucic about the US decision to accept Kosovo's request to purchase Javalin anti-tank missiles, Euronews reported.
Vucic received the ambassador for a meeting. The two discussed "the further improvement of Serbian-American political and economic relations, the international position of Serbia, the situation in Kosovo and the continuation of the dialogue with Pristina, as well as current geopolitical events."
The State Department will send Pristina's request to the US Congress, which begins the formal procedure for the arms deal.
The Serbian president said for his part that this information is "a big disappointment for Serbia".
"For us, it is extremely important that the peace in the region is not disturbed and that Serbia continues to behave responsibly and contribute to the stability of the Balkans," added Vucic.
President Vučić emphasized that Serbia is interested in strengthening economic cooperation with the USA at all levels and that it expects an increase in American investments, given the good experience of existing investors.
Vucic stressed that it is necessary for Serbia to continue working to strengthen not only the road infrastructure, but also the energy infrastructure, and announced that significant contracts are expected to be signed soon between Serbia and the US for infrastructure development./BGNES
