Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Wednesday that Hamas would disband its armed wing after the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.
"During our political negotiations with Hamas over the years, they accepted the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders and told me that once the Palestinian state was established, Hamas would no longer need to have an armed wing and that it would continue to live you're like a political party," he said, speaking from Doha, Qatar.
Fidan added that "in fact, I think that this is a very important message about the step that world public opinion will take towards the establishment of the Palestinian state. I am glad that I received such messages today."
Earlier on Wednesday, Fidan met in Doha with Hamas political leader Ismail Hanieh and other officials from the group. /BGNES
