Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called on the next Prime Minister of North Macedonia to respect the Prespa Agreement.
"I expect the new prime minister to clearly state that he respects the Prespa agreement and that the name of his country is North Macedonia and he will use it inside and outside his country," Mitsotakis said in an interview with Greek television Star.
Mitsotakis pointed out that Athens strives for good bilateral relations and compliance with agreements.
"I saw some statements by the president of North Macedonia and I think she backed down a bit from her initial statements. We strive for good relations with North Macedonia, but we have said many times that good relations go through respecting the substance of the Agreement signed by both countries," said the Greek Prime Minister.
He repeated the position of his New Democracy party. According to him, the Treaty of Prespa has "many problems that we see now regarding the recognition of the Macedonian language and nationality".
"But the Agreement defined one name for all and the neighbors must respect it. I expect the new Prime Minister, when and as soon as he is sworn in, to make a clear statement that he respects the Prespa Agreement and that the name of his country is North Macedonia and he will use it in and outside his country," emphasized Kyriakos Mitsotakis. /BGNES
