Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis noted the benefits of normalizing relations with Turkey. He drew attention to the thawing of relations since February, in an interview with the newspaper "Parapolitika. In this regard, political and administrative communication channels have been developed in recent months, which promote a better level of mutual understanding and facilitate the development of important interpersonal relations", said Gerapetritis.
"We emphasize mutually beneficial cooperation, namely a positive agenda with measures of a more commercial and economic nature and confidence-building measures oriented towards the defense and military dimension", he added.
The foreign minister, however, warned of deep differences between the two neighboring NATO allies in bilateral relations and international affairs.
He recalled the Greek-Turkish high-level cooperation council that will be held in Athens on December 7.
"The Greek government welcomes the upcoming High Level Cooperation Council with an eye towards the next generations. It is to them that we owe the legacy of a peaceful international neighborhood that will greatly contribute to prosperity and progress", said Giorgos Gerapetritis.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis confirmed the "positive climate" in relations during a September meeting in New York.
The leaders discussed the road map and schedule of bilateral contacts agreed upon at an earlier meeting of foreign ministers in Ankara.
