Greece saw 12% growth in tourism revenue for the first half of 2024.

Travel revenue rose 12.2% in the January-June 2024 period to 6,921.3 million euros, up 12.2% year-on-year, the Central Bank of Greece (CBG) said.

The flow of incoming passengers increased by 15.5% to 11,625.6 thousand euros compared to the same 6 months of 2023 (10,061.8 thousand euros).

Based on preliminary data, the tourism services balance in June 2024 showed a surplus of €2,861.7 million, compared to a surplus of €2,680.7 million in June 2023.

Specifically, receipts from tourism services in June 2024 increased by 7.7% to €3,115.0 million from €2,891.3 million in June 2023, and payments for tourism services also increased by 20.2%.

The increase in travel receipts was driven by an 8.8% increase in inbound passenger flows as the average cost per trip decreased by 1.4%. Net travel receipts accounted for 89.7% of total net service receipts and offset more than 115.6% of the goods deficit.

The biggest revenues in the first 6 months came from German tourists, which grew by 7.4% to 1,223.3 million euros, as well as from France - by 2.5% to 445.7 million euros. Revenue from the United States increased by 1.0% to €540.1 million. | BGNES
