One hundred thousand people gathered in Belgrade at a protest organised by students just ten days ago. Several tens of thousands attended the Silent New Year celebration, unique in the world history.
For weeks now, those who are the future of Serbia have been blocking their faculties, even though the government accuses them of being agents of foreign intelligence services, even though the Serbian counter-intelligence /BIA/ summons them for talks, even though the country's president threatens that his guards will throw them out in seconds. In response to all this, one man, the United States Ambassador to Serbia, Christopher Hill, is telling the students and all the citizens that Serbia is going in the right direction? And that everyone has a chance in this country.
This was stated by Dragan Djilas, leader of the opposition Party for Freedom and Justice /PFJ/. He asked the US ambassador: "Chance for what, Mr Hill?" To end up under some sort of canopy created by the corruption, incompetence and arrogance of Aleksandar Vucic's organized crime group that will crush them? No one in this country, Mr. Ambassador, has a chance and a right to a normal life if they are not a member of Vucic's Serbian Progressive Party. And everyone knows that. And you know it, but you claim the opposite. Giving the American company Bechtel the right to build the Moravian Corridor at three times the price, signing a contract for a solar power plant worth over a billion euros with a company from your country and exporting ammunition to Ukraine is really enough to turn a blind eye to everything this criminal regime is doing? Enough of pretending you don't see what they have turned Serbia into," wrote Gilas, adding.
"But why, for God's sake, don't you at least keep quiet, as you do when Aleksandar Vucic calls the opposition donkeys in your presence? Why do you utter words that you know very well are not true? Do you not hear the President of the country saying that there are 17 000 people who have sworn a blood oath to defend his staying in power at all costs? It doesn't matter to us that he says they are pro-Russian. The creation of this paramilitary formation would be a problem for us, the citizens of Serbia, even if they were pro-American, because they are a threat to freedom and democracy. But for you, at least, what Vucic said in yet another live broadcast during a nervous breakdown must be a problem, the PSS leader's statement further said.
"And it is not true, Mr Hill, that support for the European Union among Serbian citizens is growing. On the contrary - it is decreasing. It is declining because of you, because of Macron, Scholz and all the others who are sacrificing the values on which Europe was founded in the name of their personal interests. None of you asked for help. On the contrary, we believe that no one from outside should interfere in our internal affairs. But you certainly intervened. And with the call not to demonstrate when the regime stole the elections and the MPs led by Marinka Tepic went on hunger strike. And with the call to vote in the elections in Belgrade in June, even though the electoral conditions have not changed. And nobody, as you think, hates you for that?", reads Gillas' statement.
You have only disappointed that part of Serbia which believed that ambassadors and politicians coming from developed democratic countries would want the same for Serbia! I wish you to spend your retirement peacefully, watching the change of government in Serbia and how Serbia is really moving in the right direction, catching up with those whose backs we have been watching for a long time", Dragan Djilas wrote at the end. | BGNES
