Corridor 8 is key not only for Bulgaria and Albania. It is also very important for North Macedonia.
This was stated by Kotse Trajanovski - former mayor of Skopje and current acting director of the Public Enterprise "State Roads", reports BGNES special envoy in Skopje Dimitar Ruskov.
Trajanovski and the mayor of Rankovce Borce Spasovski presented the progress on the construction of the infrastructure to the border with Bulgaria, in particular the 23-kilometre section of the A2 Kriva Palanka-Stracin expressway - the last section to the border with Bulgaria. Slope strengthening works have been carried out along the route. The section is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
The Director of State Roads explained that Corridor 8 creates an alternative to the port of Thessaloniki, Greece, and will thus contribute to the economic prosperity of the entire region.
BGNES recalls that Corridor 8 is an east-west route linking the Adriatic port of Durres in Albania with the Black Sea port of Varna in Bulgaria via North Macedonia. Corridor 8 is a key component of connectivity and trade for the three countries, the region and the EU, and also an important component of NATO logistics.
The new road will significantly reduce travel time between Skopje and Sofia, enhance mobility, improve travel safety and create opportunities for socio-economic development. | BGNES
