"Both Serbia and the Czech Republic have huge reserves of lithium and I want us to use them, to create a chain."
This is what Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said during a joint press conference with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
Fiala said the Czech Republic wants to reduce its energy dependence on Russia and that nuclear energy should be developed. He added that Prague was working to conclude a contract with the company that won the tender to build new nuclear capacity.
"Serbia is facing the same challenges and solving the transition problem in its energy sector in a similar way and is looking for solutions. This is a path that requires courage and the Czech Republic is a country that advocates for the acceptance of nuclear energy in the EU so that we can achieve our goals," the prime minister stated.
He argued that Balkan countries should not be left at the EU's door and that his country would try to shorten Serbia's path to membership of the bloc as much as possible.
Fiala said his talks with Vucic were realistic and strategic and were focused on the future of the European continent.
"I am convinced that not only the Czech Republic but also the whole of Europe needs a responsible economic policy and a responsible path to prosperity, and that this path must be chosen," the Czech prime minister noted.
He added that he was glad that Czech companies had a good reputation in Serbia and that a large business delegation had come with him to Serbia. | BGNES
