EU mobilises support to fight forest fires in Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Albania

As part of the ongoing fight against forest fires, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism is responding immediately. I am grateful to the Member States who have sent help, this is EU solidarity in practice!"

Following the request for assistance from North Macedonia, Germany and Sweden have each mobilised two aircraft from the rescue EU fleet. This assistance was complemented by the Czech Republic with a helicopter from rescEU, as well as another helicopter from both Slovenia and Serbia. In addition, an EU Emergency Response Coordination Centre liaison officer was deployed to assist the North Macedonian authorities in coordinating the response.

In Bulgaria, in response to the activation of the mechanism, Greece and France sent two aircraft each. Two aircraft from the rescEU fleet in Sweden complemented these efforts.

To help Albania fight forest fires, two aircraft from the rescue EU fleet based in Italy were deployed.

The EU Emergency Response Coordination Centre continues to monitor the situation closely, ensuring that additional assistance can be provided quickly if needed. | BGNES
