The ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the People's Alliance coalition will work day and night to prepare Turkish cities for the future after the municipal elections, Turkish President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.
"We are determined to prepare our cities for the future by improving living conditions in rural areas and encouraging our people to stay where they were born and raised," Erdogan said after announcing the AKP candidates for municipal councilors in the northwestern province's districts Bursa, Hurriet newspaper reported.
The mayoral elections will be held on May 31.
"The AKP will implement a modern, sustainable, innovative and environmentally friendly urbanization policy that will lead to the further development of all Turkish cities," Erdogan promised.
This policy includes building disaster-resilient cities where "people can live in peace, safety and comfort".
"We have reached this level of development as a result of our policies that cover 85 million people in 81 provinces without discrimination," the president emphasized.
According to him, this is the key idea for making the biggest leap in the country's development.
Recalling that after local elections in March, Turkey will not hold elections until May 2028, Erdogan noted: "Therefore, we have a long period ahead of us in which to implement our medium and long-term programs."
"I am convinced that our people will vote for those individuals who carry out real mayoral policies," the president added, criticizing the opposition for "lack of a concrete vision and meaningful projects" ahead of the local elections.
"I observe with sincere regret that their only motivation is to make the AKP and the People's Alliance lose, as they do not have a single project or vision for our cities," Erdogan said. /BGNES
