Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni in Istanbul, the Turkish Presidency announced.
The meeting behind closed doors took place in the Vahdetin mansion. This is Meloni's first working visit since Italy assumed the presidency of the G7 earlier this year.
The talks that followed bilateral talks on the sidelines of multilateral meetings in Bali, Vilnius, New York and Dubai focused on the war between Israel and Hamas and the war in Ukraine, Anadolu Agency reported.
The purpose of Meloni's first visit to Turkey is to confirm the strategic nature of the partnership between Rome and Ankara within NATO and in the Mediterranean.
The two leaders were also due to discuss strengthening bilateral economic relations and the meeting of the Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETCO) later this year, as well as strengthening cooperation in the field of migration. /BGNES
