Engine fire lands Russian plane with 90 passengers at airport in Turkey

More than 90 passengers and crew have been evacuated from a Russian passenger plane upon landing in Antalya, Turkey.

The cause was that one of the plane's engines caught fire. The Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SU95) in question is owned by the Russian airline Azimuth Airlines, the Turkish Transport Ministry stated.

"The plane had just landed at Antalya airport on the Mediterranean coast when a fire broke out in one of its engines," the ministry said in a statement.

There were no injuries on board. All scheduled landings at the airport were cancelled by 3:00 a.m. local time. Other planes waiting to take off are using the airport's military runway.

An airport official told Anatolia news agency that the fire affected the left engine but was quickly extinguished. | BGNES
