Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama once again attacked Bulgaria with an attempt to manipulate public opinion on North Macedonia's self-blockade on the way to EU membership, BGNES reports.
The second Albania-EU intergovernmental conference was held today, opening the first cluster of the "Founding Issues" negotiations.
"It is sad for us, and I have said this hundreds of times, that our brothers from North Macedonia have not yet managed to enter this stage of the process, although they were the first. I am ashamed when I think about the humiliation of North Macedonia, which also changed its name. I stand by everything I have said about our Bulgarian friends, because history cannot be a reason to stop negotiations with any country," Rama said at a press conference.
"The different views on who the mother of national heroes was and who she made love to, who they were related to when they decided to make love, are very interesting topics for historians. However, this is not part of all that binds us to become part of the EU. This is not an attack on our Bulgarian friends, but something obvious. The bilateralization of the road to the EU is something disgusting. When you do that, you only harm the country in question", the Albanian prime minister added.
BGNES reminds that Albania and the Republic of North Macedonia were supposed to start EU membership negotiations together, but due to the refusal of the regime of Christian Mickoski to fulfil its obligations under the negotiating framework, the RSM was separated from Albania. | BGNES
