"Poland supports the Western Balkans on their way to join the EU".
This was stated by Polish President Andrzej Duda during a joint press conference with Slovenian President Natasha Pirc Musar in Ljubljana, TVP World reported.
The EU has granted candidate status to Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia, but the actual accession process is still a long way off.
"Today I assured the president of Slovenia that this issue is still relevant for us and that we stand shoulder to shoulder with Slovenia in support of the countries of the Western Balkans," Duda said.
The Polish head of state also recalled that Warsaw will take over the presidency of the European Council in the first half of 2025, and said that the Polish government has already set priorities for its leadership mandate in the body.
"One of the priorities is the future accession of Ukraine, Moldova, as well as, first of all, the countries of the Western Balkans," he emphasized.
"The countries of the Western Balkans have been making efforts for years to fulfil the necessary conditions for joining the EU," Duda pointed out./BGNES
