The mayor of Srebrenica, Mladen Gruicic, who is from Dodik's Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (ANSD), confirmed that "municipal and party bodies" are discussing the launch of an initiative to change the name of the municipality of Srebrenica.
The president of the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik plans to change the name of the municipality of Srebrenica, "Sarajevo Times" reported.
"By next week, we will have determined the concrete steps that will have to be implemented," Gruicic said, without giving details of the reason for launching the initiative.
On May 30, Milorad Dodik told Belgrade's Happy TV that in Srebrenica on July 11, "no one died, no one was killed, there were no operations on July 11."
"That is why some of our people from Srebrenica are saying that they are fed up with the lies about all this and now they have started an initiative to change the name. Srebrenica should not be called Srebrenica. The municipality should be given another name, so we will see how the situation will develop," Dodik said.
BGNES recalls that on May 23, the UN General Assembly voted and supported a Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica. In this way, July 11 was established as "International Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica".
In July 1995, in the Bosnian enclave of Srebrenica, Serbian forces commanded by General Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic massacred over 9,000 people in just a few days. To date, the bodies of over 8,000 of them have been found. They are buried in the Potochari area near Srebrenica. It is the largest massacre of civilians in Europe since World War II. | BGNES
