Republika Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik has spoken out against large-scale electoral reforms aimed at improving transparency. Dodik promised to block the decisions of the central institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) if they are not reversed, AFP reported.
The RS president's remarks came days after BiH High Representative Christian Schmidt announced plans to revise election laws.
Schmidt is tasked with overseeing the implementation of the Dayton Agreement, which ended the bloody civil war in BiH in the 1990s.
He has broad powers, including imposing or repealing laws and firing elected officials.
Dodik refused to recognize Schmidt's credentials after Russia and China dropped their support for the UN envoy.
Dodik told the parliament of the RS (an entity within BiH) that if the electoral reform package was not canceled within seven days, he would block decisions made in BiH's central institutions.
"I will go all the way for RS and for the Serbian people. I am starting a new phase of the struggle," said Dodik./BGNES
