This morning the Croatian Minister of Health, Vili Beros was arrested.
The detention is at the request of the Directorate for Combating Corruption and Organised Crime /USKOK/. Almost at the same time he was detained the head of neurosurgery at the Sisters of Mercy Hospital, prof. dr. Kresimir Rotim.
Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic's office announced that he had released Health Minister Beros. Until a replacement is chosen, the ministry will be headed by State Secretary Dr Irina Hrstic.
The Jutarnji List newspaper said the arrest was linked to an ongoing investigation into a scheme linked to the supply of medical equipment.
USKOK reported that "arrests and urgent evidentiary actions" were being carried out in Zagreb and the city of Skradin, in southern Croatia.
According to Jutarnji List, prosecutors have also investigated several doctors and hospital administrators in Croatia. | BGNES
